#finished all the ac games in order up to the third one

I can't be only one, right...?
I wanted to finish the game and then write this post but I gave up. I put in 100 plus hours and just could not go on once I got into act three. Maybe no one will hear my pitiful cry from the void, but I must scream for the sake of my sanity.
I was completely and utterly disappointed by Baldur's Gate 3.
It had huge maps like an open world game yet I had no desire to explore the settings despite their beauty. It had hours of dialogue as an RPG would and yet I found myself skipping characters' responses. The game mechanic structure was inspired by DnD, a story-telling game dictated by some rules, lucky rolls and the extent of players' imagination, yet I was strong-armed into fighting impossibly stacked battles. A story-telling game dependent on the players’ attachment to their and their teammates' characters and yet this game lacked any kind of narrative consistency or depth of feeling.
Larian wanted to make an open world RPG, based off of DND mechanics and somehow did the worst version of all three. The studio touts that Baldur’s Gate 3 has 17,000 possible endings and 2 million words, but to what end? What did this game have to say about what happens when people rise to the challenge and become heroes despite their circumstances or fall into the dark and become the monsters they were supposed to fight? What did it suggest might happen when fate deals you a bad hand but in doing so also helps you find true friends or love with the other? Ultimately, nothing.
BG3 is so large that it ends up being incoherent. No writing or game structure decisions were made to keep the narrative tight and on theme. It urges players to choose a moral alignment, but most decisions, good or bad, seem to end up having little effect in the end. To play the game at all you have to resort to save scumming and that in turn deflates the possible impact of so many plot points of the narrative overall.
Forcing players to save scum in order to progress through the game is terrible design in general. Statistically speaking the bosses make impossible critical hits again and again. I was playing in the game’s “casual mode” and found myself struggling to get through confrontations with bosses that were at a lower level than my own. If you are reading and thinking oh well you are probably not using tactics or spells well, etc., let’s do a little experiment…
Take your d20 (https://rolladie.net/roll-a-d20-die if you don’t have one in person). In the third act of BG3 I had an AC of 13 as a sorcerer with 100 plus HP. Roll your d20 ten times or more. How many times out of ten would your character have gotten to hit mine successfully? Unless an enemy is extremely lucky it should be unlikely that an enemy could hit my character every turn they get. And even if they do they would have to roll for damage which is only a single d6, d8, d10 or d12 plus a modifier at lower levels depending on your class. Again an enemy would have to have an extremely lucky roll to hit me every turn AND deal significant damage. During an in person DnD session that is just a bad night for my character. In a video game on casual mode that is significantly suspicious.
So what you might say. You've made and enjoyed the fanart, memes and etc. You got your $61 worth of playtime. So many other people were fine with the game, what is your problem?
I love video games. They blend so many artforms and tell stories in ways never done before. It is a medium unique to our current century and when historians look back they will view video games as an insight to our culture.
It frustrates me to no end that Baldur’s Gate 3 is considered the next gold standard. Too many games have done open world and RPGs in a fantasy setting far better for Larian (Swen Vincke) to have made the design and writing choices they did with BG3. There are so many podcasts and shows that have written better stories through the DnD format. I am embarrassed for the medium as an artist and frustrated as a player. Players and the industry deserve better than to have artists, actors, engineers etc. burn themselves out creating maximalist behemoths like this game. A game that is beautiful but basically unplayable, narratively, nihilistic and incoherent.

Hey, Steph!! I've been following your blog for like four-ish years now and thanks for everything you do! <3 Though on another note, do you any other fandoms you're into except for Sherlock and Good Omens?? Have a great day/night!!
Hi Nonny!!
Oh, gosh, I'm into SOOOOO many fandoms. I actually started out as a wee lass as a Sonic fan, and aside from Sherlock, it's the longest-running fandom I've been active in (I was a "well known" fic writer in my teens and a fan-artist) I kind of left the fandom because of school and never went back in.
But yeah, I talk quite a bit about my fandom fave things, but CURRENTLY I'm obsessed with Disco Elysium and Loki. Both series I've read a lot of fics recently for, enough that I'll probably put out lists for.
BUT, I am a fan of A LOT of things, including but not limited to these fandoms that I lurk on the sidelines in, in no particular order:
Red Dwarf
Detroit Become Human
Moon Knight
Loki Series
Disco Elysium
Kingdom Hearts
Skyrim
Dragon Age
Sonic the Hedgehog
Doctor Strange
Avatar Last Airbender
Fruits Basket
Ranma 1/2
Lilo and Stitch (mostly Stitch, I am OBSESSED)
Darkwing Duck
Assassin's Creed
As I said above, Sonic is one of my oldest fandoms. I was very active in the community in the 90's and 00's, and then I went to school and never really clicked with them after. I have a long-semi-abandoned fic series I wrote called The Metallic Touch based loosely off of Sonic SatAM and the Archie Comics with inspiration from the Fleetway Comics. I'd love to finish it one day. I have the entire series plotted out on paper.
Kingdom Hearts is my favourite video game series. I have bought entire-assed systems and consoles JUST to play the newest games. I love almost all of them, and will usually replay them the most if I'm just DONE playing a bad string of games.
Skyrim is my second-favourite game, which I've replayed 3 times and NEVER completed, LOL. I love it so much though. I've got over 300 hours clocked into my last playthrough back when I was unemployed. I'm overdue for a replay.
Assassin's Creed series is my third fave; I got into it when I got my PS4 and there was a sale on the new-gen games Origins and Odyssey, so I bought them and ADORED them. Then I bought Valhalla and loved it, it's currently the record holder for "most hours in a game (458hrs). I really like it a lot. Then when I signed up for PS Plus, almost all of the Ubisoft catalogue is on there for members, so I just plowed through all of the titles available. The only one I haven't played at this point is the original AC because it was never made available. Black Flag I think is my fave. I am one of the few, it seems, who is SUPER PUMPED for Shadows. I am sad it got pushed back but hoping that means it won't be buggy.
Other video games are more "I'm obsessed in the moment and then I adore aspects of the games and that's what I focus on". With Disco Elysium, for instance, I'm OBSESSED with the dynamic of the characters and the world building, so I need more and more (and Kim's voice is yummy, but we won't talk about that LOL). And it's more or less a Sherlock AU which really appealed to me in the end, I think. The narrative RPG was a different type of game for me, I liked that I could just... relax, you know? Dragon Age, I've only played Inquisition and haven't finished it, but again, it was about the characters for me. I love them. I want to replay that one and I want Veilguard.
Hmmm. I dunno why I went into all of that, LOL. I just felt like obsessing about whatever came to mind, hahah.
Seriously though, if you want me to go into any of my fandom things, PLEASE ASK. I LOVE talking about my obsessions, and no one in my real life really gets me, LOL. I just REALLY LOVE FANDOMS. I love being a part of them, and I love just... obsessing about them. They're my happy place.
I don't have much in my life that makes me happy, so I take what I can get :P

. °0 . Mr. Big League!
IN WHICH…
ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ revisiting your old high school means running into the boy who made it to the big leagues, the boy who had totally captured your heart.
—
word count - 1.2 k
warnings - swearing
notes - i’m so delirious and tired. pls don’t mind any mistakes 🥹 also i ❤️ mei with my whole heart
—
It had been 4 years since you graduated from Inashiro Industrial, 4 years since you left West Tokyo to further whatever dream you had when you were a third-year. Now here you were, stepping back into your old high school after all of this time. Revisiting all of your old memories.
After visiting the teachers you missed and wandering the winding hallways, your heavy eyes and constant yawning urged you to grab some coffee. Thus, you found yourself at the steps of a cute cafe.
The bell hanging on the door chimed as you entered and the smell of coffee and baked goods hit you all at once. You glanced around the quaint cafe. There weren’t many people, save for one or two seated by the window overlooking the street outside, or the person reading a book by the fireplace. Plants hung from the ceiling, the brick walls littered with framed paintings— it was charming.
“Hey there, what can I get you?” a kind voice pulled you out of your thoughts; the owner of this voice being the worker behind the counter. She had an easy-going smile on her face as she waited for your order.
You realized you hadn’t even thought of your order prior to walking in. So, quickly scanning the menu on the wall, you gave the worker your order.
She tapped the screen in front of her before giving you the total and asking for a name, to which you handed your credit card over and answered.
“That will be right out,” she handed it back with a big smile.
Strolling over to the tables, you sat yourself down and tried to distract yourself with anything in view. Your gaze drifted from the elaborate drawings on the wall, which ranged from abstract to contemporary, all different yet captivating in their own way.
Being back in the city made you realize just how much time had passed since high school. Your time with the Inashiro baseball team as their manager was one that you cherished, and missed quite a lot. Spending your days out on the grounds, picking up loose baseballs and organizing scoresheets, your schedule was constantly busy. You missed the craziness of rounding up the boys and making sure they ate the snacks you and the girls prepared.
College life had hit you hard, the change of pace totally taking you by surprise. Yes, babysitting a team of high school baseball players was a grueling, time-consuming job— but college was an entirely different story. The load of work was laughable, and the deadlines were unbelievable. You could barely find the time to go out to parties, or any type of social event, with the amount of studying you had.
“Fancy seeing you here, manager.”
That voice was far too familiar. Whipping your head around and glaring up, you found yourself face to face with Narumiya Mei. The ace of Inashiro’s baseball team when you were a manager. The kid who was 99% of the time the cause of your problems in high school.
“If it isn’t Mr. Big League,” you hummed.
After graduation, Narumiya had landed a spot with the Yomiuri Giants as a pitcher in the professional league. Narumiya’s dream came true, and the team couldn’t have been happier. You think back on when you had first found out.
He had announced the news to the whole team during dinner with his mouth stuffed with rice you had nearly force fed him. The pause after he spoke was deafening, until everyone rose with shouts and cheers.
“No way Narumiya-san!”
“Can you get us free tickets to the games?”
“Great, now his ego will be to the moon.”
Of course, you were happy for him. Ecstatic even, but it made you realize that your futures would be so different after graduation.
After finishing up dinner, you ended up having Narumiya walk you to your dorm, not wanting to walk alone this late at night. Shoulder to shoulder, the two of you walked in silence down the pathway with the night breeze carrying you along.
Your relationship with the pitcher was difficult to put into words. He pissed you off significantly with his constant chirping and egotistical personality. Yet, his presence calmed you in moments like this when it felt like the star-speckled sky watched over the two of you, the moon lighting your path and the gentle brushing of your shoulders keeping you awake.
The both of you were able to forget that the pros waited for Narumiya, and college waited for you. Your lives would soon branch off from Inashiro and you would be on your separate ways.
But right now, it was only you two and the gravel pathway that crunched beneath your feet. It was the moon that had watched this scene play out many times— You and Narumiya sharing fond glances as he returned you back to your doorstep, hesitance in the air when you would turn away to open your door. The urge to speak what should not be spoken, to break whatever trance the two of you fell under every time you were in each other’s company.
“Congratulations, Narumiya-san.”
The screeching of a chair being pulled out pushed away the memory. Narumiya sat across from you at the table, blue eyes bright and cheeks rosy. He looked the same, though his hair looked more untamed and grown out, his blond locks brushing further down his nape and covering his forehead. Mei’s air held the same boyish-charm that had first pulled you in all those years ago.
“I didn’t know you were visiting,” he rested his cheek against his palm, staring at you shamelessly. “You should’ve texted me.”
The pout on his lips made you snort and lean in a hair closer to him.
“Sorry, I thought my message might get lost with all of your fan’s,” the corners of your mouth tugged into a smile. You missed teasing him like this.
You had considered texting him and the others from Inashiro, but you decided against it for whatever reason. Maybe you were nervous Narumiya would mistake your message for some fangirl’s, that he would skim over it with no care.
“Oh please, you’re acting like I forgot who you were. As if I could ever forget your scoldings during dinner,” he lifted his head from his hand and leaned in as well, a toothy grin making its way onto his mouth. He wasn’t wrong— you would smack his head during dinner when he wouldn’t finish his bowls of rice, accompanied with some harsh words.
“Besides, becoming a pro-athlete really hasn’t changed me. I’m as humble as ever!”
A laugh escaped your lips and your cheeks began to ache from smiling. Your face felt warm as you stared back at him, this feeling had long been dormant since you had last been around him. The way your heart beat against your chest made you want to cry. All of your feelings from high school came reeling back as the two of you sat inches apart across the table.
Narumiya held your half-lidded gaze, his head tilted downwards slightly and eyes peering through blond lashes. He was still able to captivate you with ease, much to your distaste. You opened your mouth to utter a word of retaliation when your name was suddenly called.
It was your order.
Standing up and breaking eye contact, you turned away from the seated Mei, ready to grab your order. That was, until a hand grabbed your wrist gently.
“Let’s keep talking,” Narumiya had rose and stared at you with round, puppy-dog eyes, “it’s been awhile.”
How could you reject his plea. No matter how hard you tried to resist, your heart would give in every single time to Narumiya.

Ok finished armored core 6 (and got the true ending), and here is my biggest thought:
It was very good! Second best game this year so far for me. A good relaunch of the franchise.
That said, it does have some pretty substantial problems.
Before I complain, what it gets right:
It feels great to walk around in your mech
The controls work quite well
generally a very pretty game
Some really cool set pieces and bosses
It's more armored core, I have been wanting this for many years!
There are little person sized doors and hand rails and cars all over the place that give a great sense of scale, and also make me laugh at just how big everything is having been made for ACs instead of people.
Some surprisingly good characterization, (though the silent protagonist thing kinda hurts whenever people talk to you in a way that would require a response, or assume things about you. Silent protagonists don't work for self insert, I will die on this hill.)
Really its a great game.
Now complaining, because this could have easily been GOTY but it has some significant flaws.
The first one isn't so much a spoiler as a warning, the chapter 1 boss is hard enough that I can see it being a game breaker for some people. It feels like a very hard souls boss, but due to the nature of the game you can't level up or go do anything else. You just have to slam your face against the wall until you break through or stop playing. I could very easily see many people stopping at this point, far enough in you probably can't refund but not nearly far enough to have been worth the price of the game. I personally think it is the hardest boss in the game, given the tools you have access to and the player's level of experience when you fight it. And, of course, there is no easy mode, because From Software hates fun and accessibility. You can mod in some cheats to get past this boss though if you are playing on PC
If you consider yourself not great at games, be warned. You might be wasting your money here.
The other three major flaws I am going to call spoilers for and put behind a keep reading
Second, The game leans way, way too much on AC vs AC fights (or fights so similar to AC vs AC they might as well be) later in the game. Armored core is at it's best when you are adapting to new situations and customizing your mech to do so. AC vs AC fights almost all play out similarly. More levels that are unique situations, less levels that are fight 1-3 AC or AC like enemies would be better. I think this is because they made everything so detailed and so good that they couldn't make a lot of it, and so frequently defaulted back to AC battle. I think the game would be better with less good details if it meant we could have more or better big picture elements, like more maps on which to have more missions. Also I think they could have reused maps and other assets much more and much more creatively to pad out the mission count.
The game has three endings. Bad, good, and true. In order to get the true ending you have to beat the game three times, once for each ending. Each playthrough will have a handful of unique missions and boss fights. I think this is a big mistake, because the good ending is just super lazy and not good at all, the bad ending is meh (ironically more effort it seems like than the good ending with a more interesting premise), and the true ending is pretty good, and clearly the only ending that they actually put a lot of effort into. But this means to get to a satisfying ending you will need to beat most missions in the game three times, with only the occasional extra mission spicing things up in your second and third play through.
As someone who got the true ending, this was bad. It really drags down the game, because it feels quite short without it and ends very unsatisfyingly, but the repeated content is really boring. Being able to replay missions as you will to earn a higher grade? Great! Being forced to replay missions in the hope you will unlock something interesting eventually? Bad!
In both the second and third play through the game drags down good new missions by surrounding them with boredom. The multiple endings don't even give the illusion of choice and the player influencing the world because in order to get the true ending (and the only ending given proper attention), you have to first get the other two. It feels like checking boxes, not player agency.
Also the specifics of the timeline changing with each playthrough makes the world feel super artificial, and by the time you get to the big ending you are emotionally detached from having seen two previous big endings.
I think the game would have done much better with a longer campaign that you play once and two endings (the bad and true endings would have been a good basis) that were both given proper time and attention, as well as the option to play out the other content you missed as post game content.
Last of all, the part selection feels really limited, even compared to armored core 1. Which is a trick, because AC 6 has many more parts than 1. I think there are three problems: while there are more parts, there is less to differentiate them that is immediately obvious to the player. There is really not that much immediate difference between a laser rifle and a normal rifle. But in original AC, energy weapons take your power but don't cost anything for ammo (also money was a much bigger concern) so there is instantly a big difference between two otherwise identical weapons. Now in AC6 there are some big differences between energy and kinetic weapons, but they are not immediate like this.
Another example, your legs are no longer the defining feature on how fast your mech is, now it is a combination of your weight and your booster. So you can have 8 different bipedal type legs, but they all kinda blend in together instead of feeling separate with an identity. In fact, reducing the amount of legs might have given them a sharper identity - one heavy leg option has a stronger identity than five heavy leg options.
The mechanics are stripped down a bit, much more obscured, and less immediate. There is no 2D mini map radar, just a very basic directional radar with no part associated with it. No map. Money and ammo are not issues like they have been in previous games. You don't have to deploy in order to use big heavy weapons. It is not immediately obvious what something means by short vs medium vs long for targeting, what exactly tracking does, nor does it ever really explain how ricochets are calculated, how much damage modifying stats like melee actually help, and there are very little tools given to help you figure it out. If you don't have a solid feel for how various mechanics and stats work the parts don't feel that different, it just becomes "what makes number turn blue". And as mechanics are removed or become less relevant, the game loses roles for its parts to fill.
Then, slots have a much more defined role. For example, for most of the game your shoulder weapon options are very limited in what they do. Lots of parts, but almost all of them are missile launchers with some minor variation on how they fire or track or how many missiles shoot. That is all well and good in theory, but it means that there is less possible variation in parts. Once again, they kinda just blend together with no strong identity, and the times you don't get more feels real annoying. Did we really need 30 missile launchers when there are only 2 grenade launchers? And no machine guns? Also, more defined roles means no weapon arms. And no utility parts.
Again, none of this is necessarily bad, but with hundreds of parts but no where near that many roles for them to fill they blend together and your possible meaningfully different mech builds are a bit more limited and, perhaps more importantly, feel much more limited.
And it doesn't help that you can very easily design a mech that will get you through 95% of the game without any real difficulty. The missions have minor enough variation that with only a few exceptions you don't need to adapt to them basically at all in build or play style. I beat the entire third playthrough using a single build, with only two missions requiring me to change anything. (besides the chapter 3 boss, which has a required part)
So overall good or great game with some room for improvement.

How many library items do I even have out? Let's find out together!
Books ready to return: 2
Books I need to review before returning: 3 (Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands; Carrie Soto Is Back; The Lily of Ludgate Hill)
CDs: 1 (1989 Taylor's Version. I'm not ready to hear it yet. but I would like the option to do so without Spotify ads. or streams tbh)
Aaand that makes 13 items left, very good. In absolutely no order because I'm just trying to make sure I know where they all are...
1. Cheap Old Houses - Elizabeth Finkelstein: a beautiful coffee table book, apparently based off an Instagram that I (per usual) have never heard of; I am almost done but have been simply luxuriating in the photos. Currently gazing at it on BookOutlet like "$15 is reasonable for a brand new copy of such a large and 5-star book I definitely have space for actually."
2. Another Good Dog: One Family & 50 Foster Dogs - Cara Sue Achterberg: I got about 60 pages in and am loving it, but it was SO GREAT! that I had to pause and put more middling books in front of it to process; been trying to get back for 2+ weeks. That said, when I finish it...
3. One Hundred Dogs & Counting - Cara Sue Achterberg: ...when I finish the above it'll be on to the next one! (maybe? or maybe I'll want to save this 2nd shot of joy for the future)
4. The Break-Up Tour - Emily Wibberley and Austin S.B.: this has taken WAY too much time and effort to get my damn hands on. And then I didn't even read it fast! I started and then got distracted, and only yesterday managed to get up to the halfway mark. At least the request list has cooled off so I will be able to renew it.
5. The Haunting - Natasha Preston: just stocking up some reliably good YA horror for when I really crave those in the summer. This is literally an I-love-cheap-thrills situation.
6. The Joy of Falling - Lindsay Harrel: a random impulse checkout because the cover was pretty and it's about 2 widowed sisters-in-law training for an ultra-marathon in New Zealand that their late husbands had been planning to do. Thought it might serve as exercise motivation.
7. Malibu Rising - Taylor Jenkins Reid: will this suck me in as fast as Carrie Soto did? I dunno, but this is the one I was originally more interested in, so let's see if this is the year we find out.
8. Heirloom Rooms: Soulful Stories of Home - Erin Napier: Speaking of coffee table books I was looking at on BookOutlet, this popped in the "you may also like wheel" and I saw the library had it instead. "a collection of essays walking us through every room in her home, telling the story of a family’s life, of the days that made their home the place she longs for when she’s away. We learn about when they became the new owners of Erin’s dream house from childhood in downtown Laurel, Mississippi, and explore the beautiful homes of family, friends, and projects past in photographs." YEAH!
9. The Wishing Game - Meg Shaffer: I forgot to re-freeze this hold so it came in at the WORST possible time. I've been waiting on this since January and refuse to be rushed or read it if the timing isn't Perfect, so instead I'm gonna be the jerk who keeps it 3 full weeks just in case I get to it; the waitlist remains at 50+ for 7 copies. My ace in the hole is that certain books are WAY less popular in the county next door, where we can dual-register, and they also have 7 copies but only 14 people waiting.
10. Homeward Bound: Why Women Are Embracing the New Domesticity: nonfiction from 2013 that I've been vaguely meaning to read someday. There's only 1 copy left in the system so I checked it out while I was at that branch, but 99% sure I will NOT be getting to it this round. 20 days til my renewals max out.
12. DVD: Northanger Abbey: the JJ Feild spiral I have been trying to find time for since March is clearly not happening right now because WOW Ryan Gosling spiral time instead. But I can't stop believing until my renewals run out, in 3 weeks.
13. DVD: Third Star: see above. somehow holding out more hope for this one, if only because Survivor has hella reactivated my Male Friendship radar, despite these being extremely different types of men. ...just noticed my renewals on this max out in 4 days, oops.
14. DVD: Ghosts (UK), season 3: I was on a hot watching streak and then I abruptly shifted gears to watch the U.S. version's third season instead (because I was too lazy to fight with our Blu-Ray player that throws a fit every time we tell it to play a DVD instead of its favorite format), and now I don't know how to get back in the groove. But I won't give up until they make me! (9 days from now when my renewals max out)
#library triage#i use 'triage' verrrrry loosely here#when this project is over and I go back to not being a supervisor I am going to clean library checkout HOUSE and dive headfirst into summer#summer books and summer reading specifically. i have work thru at least half of july but it will leave my mind immediately at 4:30pm#so I can dive into Bookland instead of immediately retiring to recovery dozing every day...and then The Break Is In Sight#meanwhile so far this month I have read...one book. not counting the two I read most of in May and finished on the first

The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion Rambles - Ending Edition
Yesterday I ended my last session literally one attack from beating the final boss. I did not know it at the time since enemies do not have health bars. But that in itself was about 50 minutes until cutscenes/credits were over, so since I was brushing up against bedtime, it was for the best.
Yes, I have beaten The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion. For the first time, actually - last time I played the game, I lost against the final boss and just stopped playing.
Anyway, as usual, spoilers below, so read at your own discretion. Also below is some brainstorming on my next gaming schedule.
I’ll start out by talking about the title of this game. I thought it was named A Tear of Vermillion because of how sad Avin was about losing his red-headed sister and also for the pool of blood that Mile collapsed into. This game is sad and bloody, so tears+red->a tear of vermillion.
But no, the ending explains that tears of vermillion are the bonds of friendship and belief that allow one to exit the land of the dead. Or something to that effect. Nobody was crying at the end (well, Avin did when Mile re-died, but he wasn’t crying when the tears fell). Just everyone’s literal thoughts and prayers descended from the sky as red raindrops and saved the day. ???
Also, Mile was a zombie when he had silver hair. I was unaware of that. But I had previously been confused at the vision in the ice temple where his ghost showed up, since I knew he was alive, and this makes that make more sense.
Speaking of Mile, the ending sequences with Shannon were weird. It’s played for laughs that the poor girl has a huge crush on him, which he doesn’t reciprocate. And it’s just left at that. No breaking it to her, no establishing a different relationship, she just glomps him repeatedly and he acts awkwardly about it.
AvinXRutice I don’t have much to say about other than that I was appreciating how platonic but close their friendship was. Nope, not just friendship after all. My ace brain just likes to see what it likes to see. It makes sense with all they’ve been through, and how they anchor one another.
The credits art was really nice, though I wondered why Archen was there. Avin, Mile, Eimelle, and Rutice were obvious choices. Sage Gawain was reasonable, given he was at the beginning and end of the game, but Archen plays a smaller role than many of the other temporary companions. I guess the artist just liked her. She had a pretty…interesting pose.
And I’m doing all these nitpicks, but really, I enjoy this game so much. The ending left me excited to move onto the next one. Moreso the third game than the second (English order) but that’s probably because in the original order, the third game was next. If the Trails games are anything like this, I can very well see why people binge them.
Still, I’m sticking to my plan of not diving straight into Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch (as that will be my next in this series).
Current plan is:
Detective Pikachu 2 finish Ultra Sun some non-JRPG (Tears of the Kingdom?) finish Octopath Traveler some non-JRPG (Crash N Sane Trilogy?) Pokémon (maybe finish Pokedex stuff in Shield DLC?) some non-JRPG The Legend of Heroes: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch
And the Scarlet/Violet DLC playthrough being inserted whenever the second half happens to land because new Pokémon games take priority.
So yeah, there is quite a bit to go. A lot of this is cleanup, though, so some shouldn’t take too too long.
But given my renewed interest in the Legend of Heroes, I may change my pattern.
Maybe finish Octopath after Detective Pikachu 2 and make the new JRPG pattern Pokémon->Legend of Heroes->Other.
I have swapped my gameplay schedule from rigid one month one game, two weeks another game, repeat, swapping out games as necessary to: every two weeks, check up on how I feel about my current game. Still engaged in it? Keep playing for two more weeks. Getting a little burnt out? Play something else for two weeks and get back to it. And then anything can interrupt (LoH: AToV did in the first place, and then Detective Pikachu 1 replay and Pokémon SV Mew/Mewtwo event interrupted that temporarily).
Of course, there’s also the fact that Detective Pikachu 2 isn’t quite out yet. This gives me a good chance to play a more relaxing game for the next few days.
Though I’m probably just going to go back to hatching full-time to prepare to bring Pokémon from 3DS up to HOME when the second DLC drops. Datamines indicate my Ribbon Pokémon will be in there, making it the first HOME-compatible game where that is so, and I thus am doing my one-time one-month subscription to bring as much up as I can.

-- Kalos Arc II: Exploration (5)
The next two weeks found them on the road leading out of Camphrier Town and to Route 7 where the Battle Chateau laid. Spending some time there and battling as well as making sure their pokemon were on their A-game. After confirming they were ready a few days later, the couple and their pokemon made their way towards Connecting Cave, and deciding to spend the night in said cave due to a thunderstorm passing through, the couple found themselves exploring.
Being easily startled by some pokemon amidst it all, the couple ended up sharing their food with not just owned but wild.
The next morning found them in Cyllage City, a city by a mountain and a sea and known for a 'twist'... or so it read. That being said they the third badge was in range as well -- or at least Leon would have liked to say but its gym leader, Grant, had to have them wait for a few days while one of his younger rock-types recovered. Understanding this, Leon and Ashe set out to explore and in two days time, they met him for the match.
Grant was the rock-type specialist of Kalos, as well as renowned mountain climber. After Ashe, Merlin, and Joker were seated, the battle was prepared. Opting for a three versus three as per Kalos rules for the first four gym battles, his first pokemon was Barbaracle. Leon opted for his Leafeon, Tala, to take this one out quickly. Joker watched intently his senior in the grass-type department as she cast Sunny Day to counter Rain Dance and used Grass Whistle to slow it down and then finish it off with a Swords Dance-boosted Leaf Blade in quick agile movements. However, once the Barbaracle fell, one of Grant's two aces and partners was sent out; Aurorus.
Aurorus stared down Tala with a icy snort rolling from her nostrils. Forced to recall her despite her growling, Leon called out his Urshifu, Miyagi, this time. It was his first battle in Kalos, and Leon knew he had the full advantage with Miyagi on the field. The two titans clashed and despite the Aurorus' bulk and training, it was no match for Miyagi's attacks and despite being hurt, Miyagi stood tall. Next came the final pokemon -- an Aerodactyl with a collar containing a Mega Stone was seen.
Returning Miyagi and calling forth Bahamut. The two began an aerial battle and the two were soon in Mega Evolution form in a colliding of attacks. Getting nailed by a few Rock Slides, Bahamut was still able to stand against the Aerodactyl and bring it down. Landing and panting, the Charizard returned to normal and with Leon thanking him, Grant returned his Aerodactyl and brought the Cliff Badge to Leon, thanking him for a great battle and wished him well on his journey. Taking it and thanking him as well, the couple were soon on their way once Ashe returned her own pokemon and Bahamut was in his pokeball.
Once that was done, the pokemon center was headed too and the pokemon were dropped off to heal. After that, a dinner was in order, and then they were off to the hotel they were going to stay in with their pokemon left to heal over night.
Next stop, a quick trip south to Ambrette Town.

my thoughts on! phoenix wright ace attorney! (very rambly)
WHAT A GOOD GAME!!!! i really liked it!! the art was soo nice and the music was so cute, characters were charming and quirky and the court cases were ehdbfnsjcnsjxnskkd those were very good too. the first two cases were fine, the third case threw me for a loop especially towards the end (i still dont completely get how we deducted + proved that jack hammer was trying to kill the producer and like did hammer kill that guy 5 years ago by accident or what and WHY if it was an accident it had to be covered up I DONT KNOWWW whatever whatever ive made peace with that trial), and the fourth case Owhhh that was so dramatic... and GOOD.... von karma being a MURDERER was surprising and not something im like super awesomely on board with, not cuz its not well-written or whatever but kinda just like.. how do i say it. like 'wow really???' almost convenient in the sense like wow the prosecutor getting on our nerves Actually Is a bad guy but also it brings a lot of nuance to the story?? which is very interesting?!
ill circle back to this idea of nuance but like looking at phoenix's backstory with the lunch money, i really liked how disarming it was bc it initially seemed like something thats very trivial etc etc but when it explained itself more, it ended up really effectively illustrating how devastating it is to be accused of something you didnt do, how your livelihood and reputation can be ruined and whatnot, and why proof is so important, and why mia's ideology of 'believe in your client' is so important.. but then back to the fourth case, we then learn that edgeworth had essentially accused yanni yogi of something he didnt do without definitive proof, thus ruining his whole life (obvs the blame isnt entirely on him but still), and how throughout the entire game phoenix is pinning the blame on other suspects until he hits the mark, which is morally dubious.. i like it! theres so much nuance and moral greyness, which is so interesting; like with all these bizarre characters and the comedy and everything, this game does feel like a deliberate mockery of the legal system, with how EVERY SINGLE witness commits perjury and a less than competent gumshoe and a judge that biases towards the prosecutors, and how that gets ramped all the way up to 11 in the final case; as i finished the fourth case and was mistakenly thinking that this was the end of the game, i was thinking 'oh, in the newer titles i hope the court gets put under more scrutinity cuz there were many hints of corruption throughout the game with grossberg's bribery and that crazy purple man and Von Karma', then BAM case 5 smacks my face with all of that.
hoo boy case 5... i searched it up and it was as i thought, this was the one case that was actually designed for the ds while the first four were made for an older system (gba). cuz i was like woah 3d models... okkkk. i cant say i have the clearest judgement of case 5 cuz i have a detriment called Playing A Game For 12 Hours Straight, which is what i did as i wrapped up this case which really fried my brain.. but anyways yes wowww that case was tough. it was at this point i turned on an 'infinite objections' cheats cuz yeah no way was i figuring this out under 5 penalties, and saving and reloading was a pain in the ass to do. also was not a fan of the SHEER AMOUNT of evidence i had in that case like jesusssss dude.. no cuz in the last trial shit was really difficult cuz there were so many possible things i could say, i hope in future games evidence is organized better + theres a case summary tab of sorts cuz wow that was a Long Case and part of why i played this case for 12 straight hours was bc i might end up forgetting a detail thats not in the court record but i would need to know in order to progress the case (like fucking case 3 t-bone bullshit..... the plate in my court record is a completely different plate why am i just meant to remember that the plate in studio 2 was completely empty u motherfuckaaaa). but yeah it was super super cool to see the vulnerabilities of the court come under the fire, all the behind the scenes corruption coming into light and it was awesome having wright and edgeworth be ultra epic yaoi warriors unveiling the truth together. very awesome. i really like this line:
its a lot to think about, especially in regards to the capabilities of the court and whether the truth and justice and the law are compatible, with how the last two cases were heavily involved with former cases which had rulings that didnt uncover the entire truth, and how these suppressed truths came back with a vengeance. im soooo super excited to read about the real world inspiration behind this franchise and the various criticisms against the japanese legal system and just the various weaknesses of legal systems in general.
and i like ema!!!!! she was so sweet and thank fucking god we finally have forensics, even if its ds gimmicks forensics at least its something. it was very neat how even though she played the same role as maya, she stood out as her own different character, not just by being an 'opposite' of maya with the science spiritual contrast, but ema was a lot more ditzy and like.. both maya and ema were genki girls who were wright's emotional support teenage girls, but maya was slightly more level-headed, ema was more 'logical' but more 'panicked' in a sense. idk how to describe it well but the two had differences beyond their capabilities and circumstances, and it was really neat bc it demonstrated how fleshed out the various characters are, theres many characters who are similar to one another in a way (larry and gumshoe, edgeworth and von karma, etc), yet theres just enough to meaningfully set them apart beyond their character designs and functions. the character writing is just so neat! despite the characters' bizarreness there was still so much depth and genuinely striking emotions which kept the entire game very captivating.
MAYA!!! i love maya a lot. im so happy she got to be her own character and had her own doubts and struggles, i think her leaving at the 'end' of the game was the best thing ever for her character, very touching and i loved how i had to tell her HOLD IT! before she left, very sweet.... it was great to see both her and wright grow out of mia's shadow, i liked how her spiritual capabilities werent treated disrespectfully at any point cuz the supernatural is real af #GhostBeliever but yes she was a very awesome character 🥰 i cant wait to see her again and i BETTER fucking see her again and SOON..
also ive made several jokes already abt edgeworth wright yaoi bla bla bla but genuinely OMGGG bro... their setup is genuinely so good shit has me gushing like WOAH!!!! it is so DRAMATIC it is so ROMANTIC it is so GOOD!!!! becoming an attorney to be with your childhood friend except they end up being a PROSECUTOR and you guys are OPPONENTS and like WORUHSHJFK!!!! they were your defense attorney as a child so now youre their defense as an adult and fucking "Edgeworth… I'll be waiting for you in court" LIKE BITCH!!!! not to mention edgeworth is a Professional tsundere like he does this shit PROFESSIONALLY like HOLY SHIT!!!! it feels like its been so long since ive had such like straight cut romantic drama like this tension is so palpable and dramatic i am just SOOO excited to see where this relationship goes cuz this shit is sooo crazy. this setup is crazy good and nuts and like wow.. WOWWW i like this a lot. i <3 ROMANTIC DRAMA. and i really like the tension building up to the 4th case where this really blows over like we just gets tidbits and hints of how the two knew each other throughout the game and then everything fits into place so satisfyingly like thats awesome i love this
general gameplay speaking i have some issues which is to be expected cuz this is an old af game from 2005, wish i could skip text ive already seen and look at previous text boxes etc etc etc, im hopeful that these get fixed up in future titles cuz game devs strive for perfection so i #Trust future titles will be better in that regard, but that aside ive said this already but the mic function is literally sooo funny to me 😭 i played most of this game lying in my bed and there were many times where im too lazy to touch the screen w my left hand so id just press the y button and mumble speak into the mic which is a hilarious option to have 😭 i hope this isnt just a onetime gimmick and i get to do this in other games, cuz yelling out OBJECTION at the very end of the game was soooo so funny
also one last thing. in the last trial of the last case edgeworth just brought up a completely random case from the past and the judge just let him do that SMHHHH cuz god forbid i say anything off topic or i get fucking kicked out 🙄🙄🙄 bitch!!
anyways I FINISHED THE GAME YAYYYY!!!

(Y/n) and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week: Monday
Tuesday Wednesday Thursday (Part 1) Thursday (Part 2) Friday Saturday Sunday
Spotify Playlist (collaborative)
Pairing: SBI x sister!reader (she/her pronouns)
Warnings: swearing, toxic friends, panic spirals/attacks, injury, taking pills for pain
Summary: you have a very bad week, how will you manage? (Characters are fully human, but based on their DSMP characters. High school AU)
Word count: 4,818
(A/N): I’ve never played volleyball or watched Haikyuu before, so I’m not 100% certain how games work. Also, I probs should’ve split this into two parts, but eh.
“(Y/n) love, you look homeless in that sweater, it’s literally so fucking ugly.”
“Haha, yeah it is. I guess I just wasn’t really trying today.”
Adrian snorted, scanning your body with his cold eyes. “Today? You don’t try at all. You always look like trash.”
“More than trash, you always look like you just rolled in dog shit.” Sammy threw her head back and cackled at her own joke.
Your friends around you erupted in laughter as you four walked down the hallways of the hell that was your public high school. You awkwardly chuckled alongside them, you didn’t really find it funny, but you didn’t want to draw more attention towards yourself.
“Seriously, (y/n), I really don’t know why we still hang out around you anymore. You really let yourself go.”
“Yeah, now that I think about it, you did gain like five pounds in the past week.”
“Really not a good look on you, love. Then again, nothing you do can make you look good anymore.”
You tried to not let their comments get to you, you really did, but sometimes their comments just rooted themselves deep into your subconscious. You didn’t try looking good anymore, you couldn’t wear anything without them criticising it. You could never win.
“Awe,” Adrien poked your cheeks, “stop looking so sad. We’re just trying to give you advice. You really need it.”
“Yeah, (y/n). You’re so sensitive, get a grip.”
“Guys look, I think she’s gonna cry!”
You wiped at your welling eyes with the sleeves of your sweater. “I’m not. I just got allergies.”
Annie rolled her eyes. “Uh-huh. Anyways, what are our plans for Halloween? We should totally dress up like sexy angels! I think that’d be so cool. Like, Clint’s party won’t be ready for us.”
“Oh, about that Annie…”
“God, what now (y/n)?”
“I was actually planning on spending Halloween night taking Tommy and Tubbo trick-or-treating with my brothers and dad. I won’t be able to go with you guys, I’m sorry.”
The group groaned loudly. “C’mon (y/n), you never hang out with us anymore.”
“Oh my god (y/n) you still go trick-or-treating? We’re juniors.”
“I’m sorry, I’ve just been busy with my AP classes and studying for the SAT. My team captain’s really been pushing the team hard with volleyball practice. State finals are soon and we want first this year.”
“No matter how much studying you do, you’re gonna fail. You’re stupid, so why try? Just give up and hang out with uuussss.”
“Yeah (y/n),” Adrien looked at you suspiciously, “you’ve been ignoring us lately. I thought we were friends. Do you even wanna be friends anymore?”
You felt a flare of panic flare up in your gut. “I do! I-I just have so much going on right now. It’s starting to get hard to juggle everything.”
“We’re starting to think that you don’t like us anymore, we want our (y/n) back!” Sammy whined. The others agreed with her, making you feel guilty. You were ignoring them, it was selfish in your opinion. You supposed that you could skip out on taking Tommy and Tubbo trick-or-treating, there’ll be other years you could take them.
“I guess I can take Tommy and Tubbo another year. They’d just have to go without me this year.”
They cheered, giving you praise. You beamed at that, they seemed down lately and you loved it when they’d give you compliments. They didn’t do that much, so that made their praise more special to you. You strived to get compliments.
You four went off to your separate first classes for the day. Yours was statistics, a class you’ve been struggling in lately. You didn’t know anybody in there except for your oldest brother Techno, so you tried to stick with him. Unfortunately, the teacher’s seating chart placed you both on opposite ends of the room, probably because of your last names indicating that you’re siblings. You placed your stuff down on the table and plopped down into your seat, already drained. You had a long day ahead of you; you had a major AP world history test in your next class, you had to give a presentation in your AP english class that was worth a quarter of your final grade, and you had a semifinals volleyball match that would last until late in the night. If your team won, you would be going to state finals, so it was a lot of pressure on your shoulders. You were the main setter, so you had to really focus tonight if you were going to score your team points.
“Alright class, pull out your homework!”
Fuck, you had homework? You looked in your folder, only to see the unfinished sheet full of equations you didn’t understand staring back at you tauntingly. Mr. Mullins walked over to your desk, took one look at your blank homework, and just walked right past you. Another big fat zero in the gradebook for you, just what you needed. At least he wasn’t in the mood to berate you today. You didn’t need any more stress piled onto your shoulders.
The lesson felt like it dragged on forever with you frantically trying to copy down the notes on the board and trying to understand the content at the same time. Overtime, he would call students up to the board. Hopefully, he would skip over you today. “Ms. Minecraft.” Goddamn it, you spoke too soon.
Your head perked up and you looked at him. “Yes sir?”
“Come up to the board and solve this.”
Gulping, you felt panic rise up in you and stood up with shaky knees. On the board was part of the newer content he was just teaching. Something that you understood only a little bit better than the rest, and that’s not saying much. You still didn’t understand the content completely. Your writing was shaky as you wrote what you thought was right on the board. Finding the answer, you circled it and looked at Mr. Mullins. He looked disappointed.
“That’s wrong, Ms. Minecraft. Please sit down.”
You felt like your face was on fire as you saw the entire class burning holes into you with their eyes. Though they looked dead inside, as per usual with any morning class full of tired teenagers, their effects still took hold on you. You wanted to crawl into a dark hole and die. You sat back down and stared at your note packet, you couldn’t focus on the lecture anymore. Your attention was fully on your surroundings, you were hyper aware of every little whisper and bouncing leg in your peripheral vision. You could feel yourself spiraling, usually that wouldn’t happen until after your third class. Today was going to be rough.
The loud chime of the bell startled you out of your thoughts. You shakily put your papers back into your binder and put the binder back into your backpack. Right as you were about to walk through the door, you heard Techno catch up to you. “Hey, you good?”
“Yeah Tech, I’m just peachy.”
“Are you su-”
“Technoblade. I’m fine. Now if you excuse me, I have to get to my next class. I have an important presentation I’ve gotta prepare for.”
Without giving him any room to argue, you rushed off to your english class. You had Adrian and Annie in your class. For your presentation, you were paired up with people that you hardly knew. At least they did their part in the project, you were certain you were going to die if you got paired up with Adrian and Annie again. You loved them, but they never did any part of their portion of work. They left it to you to finish at midnight the day the project was due. To be fair, they both told you they had family emergencies, so you covered for them just that once.
You pulled out your flashcards only to have them knocked out of your hand when someone bumped into you. You quickly crouched to pick them up so you could have them in order by time class started. “Oops, sorry love.”
It was Annie. She and Adrian towered over your crouched form smirking at you. Looking back down to rearrange your cards, you murmured “it’s ok.”
“Are you ready for this presentation, I know I am.”
You smiled a little. “Actually, I think I’m going to ace this. English is my best subject.”
“Yeah (y/n), I wasn’t asking you. I was talking to Annie. Besides, you’re probably going to fail this.” Adrian scoffed.
“Thank you for asking, Adrian,” Annie shot a pointed look at you, “at least someone cares.”
The bell rang, signifying the start of your second block. You felt like you had a lump in your throat blocking your breathing. If Adrian, one of the smartest kids in your english class, said that you were going to fail, then you probably were going to fail. That would take a huge hit on your grade, this project was worth a quarter of your final grade after all. You were zoned out for the entirety of your classmate’s presentations putting yourself into a spiral. You jumped when Mr. Todd, your teacher, called your group up to present.
You stood stiffly in the middle of your two groupmates and clutched your flashcards with clammy hands. Luckily, your part of the presentation was not first. When it came to your part, you were stuttering and tumbling over your words. You even dropped your flashcards in front of everybody, causing half the class to snicker. Your face burned as you hurried to pick them up and your other groupmate took this as a signal to continue the presentation. You still had an important point to make that was integral for the set up to your other groupmate’s part of her presentation. You stared at your flashcards for the rest of the presentation.
When the bell rang, you made a mad dash out of the classroom. You didn’t want to talk to anybody, especially not Adrian or Annie. It was a relief that you had your lunch period at the moment. You could hide yourself in the bathroom nobody used and let your panic attack ride itself out.
You ducked inside a stall and sat on the toilet, bringing your knees up to bury your face in them. The tears and panic you were holding in all day let itself out with explosive effects. You started to hyperventilate as you muffled your sobs with your knee. Your chest painfully clenched so you couldn’t breathe. Your limbs felt like they weighed two tons each and they were shaking intensely. You didn’t hear the end of the lunch bell ring. By the time you calmed down slightly, you were five minutes late to AP world history.
You packed your stuff up in a hurry, power walking through the halls. You probably looked like shit, but you didn’t care, you had a class to get to and a test that you probably wouldn’t be able to finish now. You lost ten minutes of your test time. When you tried to open the closed door, you found that it was locked. You had to knock if you wanted to get in. You raised a shaking hand to knock, but the door was opened by a less-than-impressed Ms. Osborne. She ushered you to your desk and gave you your unit test.
You couldn’t focus. The multiple choice section was usually a breeze to you, but you couldn’t comprehend any of the questions. When you could comprehend them, you couldn’t concentrate on choosing an answer. You did your best to find the correct answers, but you were almost positive that at least half of them were wrong. Your handwriting was nearly incomprehensible and your essay topic was something you didn’t study for. When you were done with half of the body paragraphs, the bell rang and you had to turn in your unfinished test.
You had your independent online psychology course next in the library. You usually worked alone secluded in a corner deep inside the library where nobody went. You would get some solace in being alone. Maybe you’d calm down enough so that you could ride home with your brothers and not go for a long walk so you could avoid them.
You settled down in the comfortable chair and pulled out your laptop to get started. Psychology was your favorite class. It was easy for you to understand, it didn’t have much of a workload attached to it, and it was fun to learn about. It always calmed you down reading about the intricate workings of the brain.
By time the day was over, you got most of your psychology work done and you were on your way to the car you shared with Technoblade and Wilbur. You took out your spare keys and slumped against the window in the backseat. You were absolutely drained after your terrible day and you still felt panic swirling deep within you, waiting for the right moment to strike.
You stretched out your legs across the seat and leaned your back against the door. For the first time that day, you felt peaceful. You still had at least fifteen minutes to yourself until your brothers would start to make your way to the car. You felt the panic subside slightly and you fully relaxed. You closed your eyes and let yourself drift off into a light sleep. You needed your energy for tonight’s match.
The door you were leaning on swung open and you tumbled backwards smacking the back of your head against the metal frame of the car and reverse scorpioning onto the pavement. Your entire upper back and the back of your head exploded in pain and your lower back hurt slightly from having your back bent uncomfortably. You heard laughter above you as you felt tears of pain start to slip out of your eyes. Your legs swung out from their place above your face and landed on the ground with a painful thump.
You saw three blurry figures above you laughing at your pain. You reached up with a shaky hand to wipe at your tears and saw Adrian, Sammy, and Annie. They were cackling as you shakily stood up and sat on the comfortable seats of the car. You waited patiently for them to calm down.
Eventually, Sammy calmed down enough to explain what happened to you through chuckles. “I’m sorry (y/n), it was just too good to resist. You should’ve seen your face.”
She and the others broke back into uncontrolled laughter as they remembered your embarrassing fall. You were used to their antics, and quite frankly it felt good to make your friends laugh, even if it were at your own expense. Just as they were calming down once again, you saw Wilbur and Techno walk out the front doors of the school laughing at something the other said. Annie and Sammy heard their laughter and quickly turned around to watch them. They had massive crushes on both of your brothers, many in the school did.
Your brothers made their way to your shared car and stopped to look at you in slight confusion. “(Y/n), were you crying? What happened?” Wilbur asked worriedly.
“Yea-”
“Oh Wilbur, it was terrible, (y/n) fell out of the car. I don’t think she closed the door before she leaned on it.” Annie interrupted you with a faked concerned tone, a complete contradiction to her reaction before your brothers came.
Techno hastily made his way to the driver’s side door. “Well, if she’s hurt we better get going, right Wilbur?”
“Yes! We better get going, please excuse us.” He sat in the passenger seat and closed the door without hearing Sammy and Annie’s desperate attempts to stop them so they could talk to them. Your brothers thought Sammy and Annie were annoying. They absolutely hated being around them.
Waving apologetically at your friends, you pulled yourself into the car and closed the door. Annie and Sammy looked offended that you had let Wilbur and Techno get away from them. Avoiding their eyes, you looked down at your tightly clasped hands. They were shaking slightly.
After pulling out of the parking lot, Techno glanced at you from the rearview mirror. “You ok (y/n)?”
“Yeah, my back just hurts and I have a headache.”
“Well, do you wanna go and get some ice cream? We still have some time left before we have to pick up Tommy and Tubbo. Dad doesn’t have to know,” Wilbur asked you.
You sighed, you wanted nothing other than to take a nap before your match. “Sorry, but I need to watch what I eat today. We have semifinals tonight and I can’t have anything sugary. I just wanna go home and take a nap.”
Your brothers were quiet for the rest of the car ride until you reached your driveway. Techno twisted his body around in his seat to look at you after he put the car in park. “Did you actually fall out of the car?”
Shit, should you tell him the truth? If you did, they would almost certainly get mad at your friends. Sammy and Annie would never forgive you if you turned your brothers against them. You decided that you would take one for the team again. “Yeah, I wasn’t paying attention.”
Techno snorted. “Well, that was stupid,” he jokingly said. “Next time you’re gonna get run over by a parked car.”
You knew that he meant that as a joke, but it still stung. Stamping your emotions down, you laughed with him and Wilbur. It was stupid of you to do, you shouldn’t have let your guard down if you weren’t at home.
You winced as you slung your bag on your back and walked the best you could back into your house. Your upper back was killing you. You made a beeline to the bathroom and rummaged through the medicine cabinet looking for some pain relief pills. You took some and shambled off to your room to take your well earned nap. You set your alarm’s setting to its loudest volume and passed out.
You jolted up and gasped when you felt a wave of pain hit your upper back. You blearily looked at the time. You had a little under two hours before you had to get back to the school for your match. You groaned when you pulled yourself up, your head pounding with every turn. You pulled yourself out of bed and once again took some pain pills. You went downstairs to grab an apple or something to eat. Your dad was at the stove stirring something around in a pot.
He turned to look at you with an excited smile. “You ready for your match tonight? You’re gonna kill it!”
You only nodded halfheartedly and plopped yourself down at the table with your apple. Philza frowned at your lack of enthusiasm, but he figured that it was just because you just woke up from a nap. You’d bounce back eventually.
“Wilbur told me that you fell out of the car? How’d you do that?”
You shrugged, wincing slightly as it moved your back slightly. “Dunno, must’ve not closed the door.”
Philza was at your side in a hurry, his hands hovering over your shoulders. “Did you get hurt? Show me where it hurts.”
“My back and the back of my head.”
“Can I move your shirt so I could look?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
You felt him gently pull the neck of your t-shirt away from your body to peek at your back. You heard his breath hitch as he looked. Was it that bad? “Good god (y/n),” he breathed out.
“What, is it bad?”
“Don’t you feel how bad it is? Your entire back is bruised. I think there’s some blood too.”
“Damn.”
“First, language. Second, that’s all you have to say? Aren’t you in pain?”
“Yeah, but the pain pills are gonna kick in soon. I’ll be fine.”
“Would you be able to play tonight? I really think you should sit this one out.”
“No, I’m playing tonight Dad.”
“(Y/n),” oh no, he was using his stern dad voice. “It’s not a good idea to play tonight. You’re hurt, I’m sure they’ll understand if you sit this one out.”
You felt frustration rise up in you. “We’re in the semifinals. They need me, I’m the main setter. They’d lose without me playing.”
“(Y/n), I’m serious. You’re not playing today.”
“Dad, I am playing today. Look, I’ll talk to Coach Williams to see if I could be rotated out more often. I know she’d let me.”
He stared at you for a while before sighing. He knew there was no convincing you. “...Fine. But you better talk to Coach Williams about sitting out for a bit if your back hurts too much or I swear I’ll drag you off the court myself.”
You smiled a little at the small victory. “Thank you! I promise I’ll sit out if needed.”
He quirked an eyebrow at you. “If needed?”
You sighed, “when needed.”
He walked over to the pot, stirring the contents slightly. “That’s better. Dinner’s almost ready, I made some pasta.”
“It smells good, but I think I’m skipping out on it for today. I already ate this apple and if I eat any more I’ll probably hurl on the court.”
He made a displeased noise in the back of his throat, “fine, but you’re eating something when we get home tonight.”
He walked off to go get your brothers and Tubbo for dinner. You could hear their booming steps racing down the stairs towards the kitchen. They raced into the kitchen and almost crashed into the back of your chair. You stood up and looked at the two excitable fifth graders. “Careful boys, don’t want you getting hurt.”
“You’re no fun (y/n),” Tommy whined.
“Sure, sorry bout that,” Tubbo beamed at you.
You chuckled, making your way upstairs to get ready for your match. You took off your clothes with great difficulty and slipped on your jersey and your spandex shorts. They were way too short for your tastes, but you couldn’t wear longer ones, they’d just get in the way. You fondly remembered how your dad flipped out when he first saw you in them, he hated them with a burning passion. He still hates how short they are.
When you were struggling with pulling your hair back into a tight, sleek ponytail, the back of your head throbbed continuously with pain. You most likely bruised your scalp.
You slipped on your shoes that were made specifically for playing volleyball and headed downstairs. You were met with Tommy and Tubbo jumping in excitement seeing you in your uniform. They loved going to your matches, even if they would always pass out in the car after them because matches usually ended late at night. You grabbed your dad’s keys and headed to his car. Before you could lead the boys out the door, Philza’s voice stopped you.
“(Y/n), coat.”
You huffed, grabbing your coat and putting it on before tossing him his keys. You four got into the car and set out for the high school. The short drive was filled with Tommy and Tubbo asking you questions about volleyball and encouraging you. “(Y/n), you’re gonna kick their butts!”
“Yeah!” Tubbo cheered
Despite their voices causing a spike of pain to shoot throughout your head, you laughed at their enthusiasm. It was always nice to hear your little brother and pseudo brother in the stands cheering you on, they were your and your team’s personal cheerleaders.
Not long after you got to the school, you were stretching with your team on the gym’s floor. Your posse found their way into the stands, sitting in the front row. The away team watched your team like a hawk, analysing every single player for any weakness. It was because of them that you tried to not show any pain when you moved your back. You talked to Coach Williams before the team stretch and she was obviously sympathetic with your situation. She agreed to switching you out with the standby setter every few rotations.
The echo of the whistles caused pain to ring in your head every time someone scored or a foul was called. Your team captain, Haley, was constantly, yet discreetly checking on you throughout the game since she was always next to you. She was the team’s main spiker after all.
The game droned on and on before you realized that the opposing team was targeting you when they were offensive. They probably realized that you were injured a round ago. You tried your best to block every ball that was sent your way, but a few managed to slip past you when you couldn’t move fast enough. This team was good, but your team was better.
The score during the final round was tied and the clock was on it’s last ten seconds as the ball soared your way. You dove to hit it, landing on your shoulder on the hard floor and hitting it up high enough for Haley to spike the ball down. The crowd went wild as the ball bounced off from the opposite end of the court almost simultaneously with the screeching of the referee’s whistle, signifying the end of the game and your team’s victory.
You laid on the floor in pain, you thought you must’ve pulled your tender muscles in your back and shoulder. It hurt to move it. You felt one of your teammates grab your hand to yank you up into a giant full team group hug. You yelped slightly in pain as you felt arms press against your back and hands firmly patting your bruised shoulders. You were whisked away into the locker room to change into the pajamas you brought with you.
“(Y/n), are you alright? That was a pretty hard fall.” Haley’s soft voice asked you. You felt your heart sing in your chest.
“Yeah Hales, I’m fine. I just pulled a few muscles.”
Her perfectly shaped eyebrows furrowed together, “are you sure? As your team captain and your friend, I’m worried about you.”
You couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face. You felt warm knowing that she cared about you. “I’m sure, worrywart.”
She rolled her eyes playfully and breathed out a soft laugh. “Sorry for asking, grump.” Her laugh sounded like music to your ears.
Your phone vibrated in your pajama pocket, alerting you of your family waiting for you in the car and for you to hurry up. You sighed, “sorry Hales, I gotta go. Dad’s getting impatient.”
She gave you a small smile. “Oh, well, tell your family I said hi! Good work on the court today, I wouldn’t ask for a different setter.”
You felt your cheeks warm up and you watched with wide eyes as she left the locker room. Your phone vibrated again, your dad was really starting to get impatient.
You walked out of the school as fast as you could to find your dad’s car waiting for you up front. Jumping in and softly closing the passenger side door, you slumped against the window. “(Y/n),” Tommy’s tired voice slurred. “That. Was. Pog…”
You glanced back to see him and Tubbo snoring away in their seats. Your match was more exciting than usual, so that must’ve really tired them out. You chuckled, turning back around to lean against the window. You took care not to put any weight on your shoulder or back.
“(Y/n), you were amazing out there, but why did you dive for that ball? That fall looked like it hurt.”
You hummed tiredly, “thanks Dad. I just did what I thought would win us the game. We’re going to finals!” You quietly sang.
“Did you hurt your shoulder?”
“I actually don’t know, but I think I might’ve pulled a few muscles. Nothing too bad.”
“...I scheduled a doctor’s appointment for you tomorrow morning during your first and second blocks. I want you to get your back, shoulder, and head looked at. You looked miserable the entire match.”
You sighed, too tired to argue, “mmk.”
He chuckled before the car fell into a comfortable silence. The gentle bouncing of the car and the subtle hum of the engine was lulling you to sleep. Your eyelids were drooping by the time you pulled into your driveway.
You drug yourself out of the car and into the house, leaving Philza with the sleeping boys. You walked straight to your room and plopped down on your bed, passing out instantly for the second time that day.

Can you write Mickey be the whipped married guy in his friend group who always leaves early because he misses his husband 😂🥰
“Read ‘em and weep, boys,” Mickey said, smirking as he laid his cards on the table with a flourish.
The other three men groaned, tossing their own cards to the middle without even bothering to show them.
“That’s the third one in a row, Milkovich,” one of them complained. “You tryin’ to hussle us?”
“Ey! Shut up, Danny,” another hissed, whacking his arm with the back of one hand. “Kid’ll probably gut ya for sayin’ that shit.”
“Nah,” Danny said. “He wouldn’t dare, he’d get sent back to the can without his hubby.”
All three men broke out into raucous laughter, Danny making kissy noises until Mickey grabbed up a handful of cards from the table and smacked them right into his pursed lips.
“Yeah yeah, laugh it up,” Mickey said. “Just remember that Joe knows what he’s talkin’ about—learned a lot of ways to kill a guy in prison.”
“Not much else to do there,” Joe agreed with a nod as the other two men started to wind down.
“Unless you got a man!” the third man, Timmy, chimed in, and they were off again.
“Sure, sure,” Mickey said, letting them laugh. “But there’s only so much an ass can take, fellas, and once that’s done…”
He mimed slitting his own throat.
“Ugh, Mickey,” Danny groaned. “We don’t need to know that shit, man.”
“You’re the maintenance guy, Dan,” Timmy said. “Don’t tell me you never walked in on the two of ‘em?”
“Fuck no!” Danny exclaimed. “If their stupid little ambulance is in the lot, I come back later!”
“Lucky,” Joe sighed. “I was up there cleaning the windows once before they got curtains, and—”
“Whoa!” Mickey interrupted, holding out a hand over the table. “Let’s keep that shit to ourselves, fuck you very much.”
Joe grinned.
“Why should I?” he asked. “Not like you cared at the time.”
Mickey rolled his eyes.
“At the time, I had a more important issue to deal with.”
His phone went off in his pocket, the shrill tone cutting through the room loud enough to halt the conversation.
“Speak of the fuckin’ devil,” Mickey muttered, digging it out. “Ian just texted, he’s heading back up. Sorry guys, guess that’s it for today.”
A chorus of groans met his statement, a chair creaking as Danny leaned back too far.
“You always abandon us, man,” he complained. “As soon as he’s done, you nope outa here, even in the middle of a hand.”
Mickey raised his eyebrows.
“We in the middle of a hand now, genius?” he asked. “No? Then if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go meet up with my husband.”
“Fine, fine,” Danny said with a sad wave. “But someday you gotta at least bring him down here to meet us when we play, so you can’t go runnin’ off before you lose.”
Mickey snorted.
“I don’t lose,” he said dryly. “And you’ve already met him.” He looked around the table, meeting every pair of eyes. “All of you fuckers have.”
“Yeah,” Danny said. “I have. And you know what?” He sucked his bottom lip into his mouth, let it go. “I don’t fuckin’ get it, man, I really don’t.”
“I’m with Dan,” Timmy said, sitting straight. “Guy’s an over-sized puppy dog, and you’re a badass, Mick. How’s he got you so wrapped around his little finger?”
Mickey waited a beat, then looked to Joe.
“Anything you want to add?” he asked the cleaner, but Joe just shook his head.
“Nah man,” he said with a snort. “I’ve seen exactly how he’s got you wrapped up.”
Mickey flushed.
“You shut the fuck up,” he demanded, pointing at the older man. “Or next time, I’ll open the window and shove you off your platform.”
“The windows don’t open!” Danny called toward Mickey’s back as he turned to walk away.
Mickey threw him a middle finger over his shoulder.
“And I’m not sure you’d get to them anyway if he trusses you up like that every time!” Joe added, and got the other finger added for his efforts.
The door to the basement slammed as Mickey left, and the three men were left alone in the pleasantly chilly employees-only room.
“Think he’ll ever bring him by?” Timmy wondered.
“Nah,” Joe answered him. “Only time he comes down here’s when Big Red is busy.”
They all nodded in agreement as Joe gathered up the cards again.
“Another hand fellas?”
—
Exactly a week later, Joe, Danny, and Timmy were down in the basement again, clustered around their little card table between the lockers that held their personal things.
“Too hot to be mowing, man,” Timmy complained, running a hand through his sweaty hair. “When I took this job, I thought it’d be cushy, but that Melanie bitch is demanding as fuck.”
“Your own fault for pickin’ such a stupid job, mate,” Danny told him with a heavy pat on the back. “It is hot as balls out, though,” he agreed a second later as he took a seat. "That weird lady on the third floor doesn't run the AC, and I was up there all mornin' fixin' her shower."
“Anybody know if Mickey’s joinin’ today?” Joe asked, shuffling the same deck of cards they used every week.
“Nah,” Timmy answered. “He only comes when his man’s at the gym, yeah?” Danny and Joe both nodded. “Well, Big Red was headin’ up to his place when I finished up; he must’ve decided it was too hot too.”
But before Joe could start dealing, the door above them creaked open, and they could hear heavy footfalls on the steps. From the sound of it, more than one person.
Mickey appeared first, a wide smirk on his face, followed immediately by Big Red himself.
“Hey losers,” Mickey greeted, making straight for the table. But instead of sitting, he just pulled out the chair, and motioned for his husband to take it.
“Uh, hi guys,” Ian Gallagher said as he obediently sat down. “I hope you don’t mind me joining.”
The three men just stared, then stared harder as Mickey, instead of finding a seat of his own, chose to plop right down on Gallagher’s lap.
“Figured you guys had bugged me enough,” he told them. “Might as well give you what you asked for.”
“Uh, yeah.” Joe was the first one to recover, offering a cautious smile to the newcomer. “Hey man, good to see ya. You know how to play?”
“Probably,” Ian said with a shrug, one arm wrapping around Mickey’s waist to keep him in place. “What are we playing? Five card draw? Texas hold’em? Seven card stud? High Chicago? Low Chicago? Follow the Queen?”
He looked around the table, and stopped when all he saw were stunned faces.
“Uh…or something else?” he added hesitantly.
“No, no, just…regular poker,” Joe answered, eyes wide. “None of that weird shit.”
“Oh, sorry,” Ian said with a little laugh. “My dad made sure we knew all the games, made it easier to help him cheat. I remember one time he tried to sneak me into a casino just to grab wallets while he played, but I ended up winning big at a high-rollers table until they found out I was only seventeen and chased us out.”
He sighed wistfully.
“Still wish I had managed to cash out first, would have set us up for a year.”
All the men, Mickey excluded, just blinked at him.
“Your puppy tellin’ the truth, Mick?” Timmy finally squeaked, but all he got from Mickey was a shark-like grin.
“Deal him in,” Mickey ordered with a nod to Joe. “And remember, you fuckers asked for this.”

haikyuu boys as part of the mafia + how he met you
note: i just thought of this while im washing the dishes HAHA. female reader insert. also happy birthday to the ultimate baby bokuto 🥺💖
warnings: nsfw, mention of violence, grammar issues because im dumb asf
bokuto kotaro
decoy/manipulator
has a two persona that is best used especially when he is in the midst of a deal
even though he’s a decoy, it is enough to send a rival down to his knees and beg for his mercy
Because bokuto doesn’t show tiny bit of his mercy especially when his dominating side takes over him
Is a good manipulator. To the point that you would have constant nightmares with just the slip of his words.
Good with his hands. Quite aggressive. Yet he plays his cards elegantly like the man he is.
you met him in a luxurious casino. you were the attendant of his table and you could always note how fast his mood changes and it was scary. you carefully stacked the chips in front of him, feeling the heavy weight of his stern gaze. you saw from your peripheral how his hands slid down the edge of the mahogany. “play with me.”
you didn’t answere and continued on organizing the stacks for a new game as per bokuto’s request but he repeated those words again, “play with me. you. im talking to you.”
and you did. he lost. and that’s what made you terrified even more. he grew dejected and stormed out of the casino like a raging tsunami.
that didn’t made bokuto happy at all, so he made sure to find you so he could play with you once more. it didn’t caused him a sweat when he found out where your apartment complex is. and his words have shaken you when he laid the stacks of money on your table and said, “play with me. the loser gets to kiss the winner, if you’ll allow it of course.”
there’s something with his words that are like witchcraft spells. and you found yourself nodding, yes.
daichi sawamura -
the kingpin.
daichi is the leader of the mafia group: karasuno or better known as their alias ‘lethal crows’.
daichi is born into the syndicate. so he doesn’t get caught up unlike amateur people in the black world.
undergone strenuous training just to prove himself as the worthy kingpin.
he often orders the assassination and criminal deals.
he isn’t as ‘intimidating’ like how people expect kingpins to act, but daichi has his own way that makes people so afraid of him. if he wishes to kill on the spot, he kills. even if you’re something important, if you annoyed him to the edge, you’re six feet deep.
however, one flaw of daichi is that he prioritizes his members that he doesn’t oversees the barriers coming his way.
you met him during this time when curiosity get the best of you. you entered this fancy yet abandoned building in hopes of scavenging something that was left by its past owners. however, no treasure came to your view, rather a drug deal with bunch of rogue looking guys.
“daichi?” you were so shocked to see your co-worker in an expensive designer coat sitting in this throne like chair with stack of bills piled in front of him. he isn’t the typical guy you were used to seeing: the goofy guy in the fryer with his greasy apron.
you didn’t expect him to be so, different.
“who’s this?” tanaka rose up to his seat. cracking his knuckles while giving you a dangerous look.
“let her enjoy her remaining life as a free citizen. after this..” he counted the bills and paused at look at you, “you’re coming with me.”
akaashi keiji
weaponry/gadgets specialist
Quite reserved.
He is often hired to big projects but he would turn it down if it requires his apperance.
No matter how much his members push him to bite off the job he wouldn’t, not unless he works up in the roofs, alone.
Usually works in the shadows. Where his identity is hidden.
Ask him about any weapon, he’ll have an answer in a few.
give him a vague description of a bomb, he’ll have it ready, ticking, for you.
he met you when you walked into his first walked in his gang’s base, with your red stilettos clicking aggressively against the marbled tile. then comes the second meeting and the third till you’ve both made good acquaintances. you liked him. for both his smart mouth and big dick. if he wasn’t just too difficult to persevere.
but you could see that way his breath hitched the moment you walked in with your fitted versace dress. which made you cocky from head to toe.
he could note the way your lips tugs upward as you scan the whole interior of the place. you didn’t need it though as you know every curvature of the place. you were just that shit going around him so you could give him a good view of yourself that he refused indulge in.
you stopped midway to stare at him from head to toe then back to his pretty face. gaze fixated on his kissable lips. despite your urge to kiss him up, you decided to tease, “give me something bold.”
“pardon?”
“you heard me, akaashi.”
and he gave you a fancy handgun, a caliber. however that wasn’t your request. you pulled his shirt and whispered to his ears, “i said i want something bold. want me to spell it out for you? A-k-a-a-s-h-i”
and you walked away. just like that and things just became bold in your apartment complex.
oikawa tooru
underboss/ loverboy
Smooth talker. Usually uses his pretty face as an advantage to get something off girls that swoon over him.
he is quite unpredictable as well.
he approached you out of nowhere in the met gala and you were forced to be in his own disposal. he isn’t really a headache to deal with. but you aren’t here to flirt around especially with pretty boys like him. there is something in him that is similar with a ticking bomb. so best is to admire guys like him at a distance.
however, oikawa is determined to chase over you. because you are like a diamond in a room full of charcoal.
he approached you immediately when you stopped by in the concession stand to nurse yourself a cocktail.
“fancy a dance, miss?”
you looked at him. oikawa tooru. beautiful as they say but you immediately walked away.
oikawa smirked to himself, “if you just don’thold a precious information. i wouldn’t chase over a doll like you.”
tendou satori
head of intelligence
can predict the moves of the rivalry gang
so in result they end up getting butchered thanks to tendou’s half assed predictions.
guess monster
the boys entered the room with a agitated expression painting their faces.
tendou raised a brow and looked at the boy filling in their ammos. “what’s up boys?”
“we got played.”
tendou grinned. “oh, interesting. who pulled an ace card?”
“y/n of the yakuza.”
tendou made sure to track you down for meddling in his play.
kyoutani kentaro
torture specialist
All the dirty work is assigned to him
But kyoutani is quite carefree with his job, to the point where oikawa needs to step in to clean after his mess.
he is really brutal when it comes to finishing a rat pack from a rivalry gang and he gives no mercy.
knows every possible way of killing
but he fancies using the bat since it can strengthen his arm strength and it’s practical.
loves the sound of metal clashing with hard skull with the splasing sound of fresh blood slightly staining his skin.
you were both childhood sweethearts. however, you were the only one pursuing him because he doesn’t want to commit anything to you. not until you found out about him and his crucial job out of accident and he was forced to confess to you, and it was the reason why he don’t want to accept your heart.
one time he went home and he couldn’t find any trace of you. panic coursed through his veins when he heard your cries over the line.
“fucking touch her and i will drench all of you in boiling acid.”
ushijima wakatoshi
hand to hand combatant
people are usually afraid of him because of how he could flip people off easily without drenching a sweat
he has the capability to run a whole gang just by himself
but he would just rather go and fight fist first
and chill afterwards
both of you met when you were scouted as a new member and part of the group’s test is to have a hand to hand combant against wakatoshi.
you were mortified when he approached you. with his large built and driving aura.
“ready?” he asked lowly.
“no?”
he raised a brow, “i bet.”
and he let you win just so you would get accepted in the gang.
tanaka ryuunosuke
hand to hand combatant
really moody
aggressive and violent
could kill with just the use of his hands, alone.
but he has his soft moments too but this happens when the moon turns blue.
you were tasked to be his sparring mate. and to be frank, you were really spooked and frightened that you won’t get out of the arena, working let alone, alive.
and to see him up close, it was really, a deal. he’s tall, with a slim yet broad frame, and really is intimidating. he gave you a look and ruffled your hair.
“i don’t hurt girls.”
that was the first time you saw him smile. rumors said he never did.
sugawara koushi
consigliere
smart shit.
he’s usually responsible for the activities of the group.
master at hiding the illegal stuff away from prying eyes
and a genius at continuing the legal stuffs even though it’s just for a front
he is also the adviser of the kingpin, especially at plans and deals on heists and forgery
at some point, he is the official diplomat for Japan.
he met you when he is trying to study the floor plan on the central bank. he was in this beige tux, with his gray hair brush up to give justice to his whole other persona.
you came up to him and offered him installation plans and bank deals perfect for a bachelor like him.
he gave you a smile, “i will be meeting you soon.”
and he did. in a creepy dali mask and a red overalls. “i told you, i will be back.”
iwaizumi hajime
sniper
he goes with codes to maintain his anonymity
he works like a black panther, often sleek yet deadly
even the police couldn’t catch up with his hideous crimes because he never leaves unwanted trails behind
kills in his own special way
one time, he made someone swallow a C-4 and stitched his neck leaving it looking so grotesque
and boom, red, bloody like a slaughter house
he once made his way onto one of oikawa’s fancy bar to unwind. however, things went distrupt when there was a sudden shootout. he was beyond amused at how petty the shooters were aiming down at him. it was full of chaos.
he ducked down to fill in his ammos but he could see a figure crouched down underneath the satin cloths drench haphazardly above the tall tables.
he yanked the cloth and saw you there, looking lost as fuck. “what the hell are you doing here?!”
your eyes widened at the sight of the handsome man looking down at you as if you’re some unknown species. “uhm— chilling?”
he repeated your words. “chilling? in a middle of a fucking shoot out?”
“yo. i was lost okay? i don’t know where the exit is”
he grabbed you and threw his arms over your head so you’re protected from the stray bullets ricocheting over the place. “you’re a fucking goner.”

Burn Some Calories (Haikyuu!!)
Primary Universe
Thank you, first anon! Your request made me so happy! I love Nishinoya! I want more of him in my life! General yelling about how awesome and adorable he is! Yaaaaaah! Anyway, enjoy! ^^
2. “Take that back!”
5. “You don’t have it in you.” “Are you sure about that?”
30. “Are you crazy? I can’t last that long!”
~
“Eat my dust!” Noya laughed as his racer blazed by Asahi’s on the track.
Asahi glanced at his smaller friend for a brief moment, smirking. Noya was always energetic, but somehow while playing video games that energy just went so far beyond the next level it nearly broke through the atmosphere. This was only their second race, but watching his friend get so worked up over fictional characters in a game that ultimately didn’t matter was highly amusing to Asahi.
I wonder if he’d freak out over suddenly losing? The ace thought, and no sooner had he wondered it than he was testing it, reaching over at the end of the third lap to grab onto Noya’s ribs and tickle.
“AIEEE!!” Noya screeched, bursting into laughter. “Nohohohoho, you cahahahahan’t do that! Asahiehehehehehehe!” The libero cackled madly, but somehow managed to stay in control of his racer just long enough to cross the finish line, at which point he shoved at his friend’s hand to free himself. “That was a dirty move.”
The ace chuckled, crossing the finish line a few places behind Noya, but it had been worth it to get that reaction. He set his controller aside and playfully grabbed his friend’s leg, yanking his foot into his lap and scribbling wildly over the socked sole. “I was hoping you’d get mad about that. I guess nothing fazes you, huh?” Nothing, that is, except tickling.
“Stahahahahahahap!” Noya shrieked, using his free leg to try and kick Asahi away. “No fahahahahair, you knohohohohow I’m tihihihihihicklish!” At that moment the doorbell rang, bringing a stop to their playfulness as Noya twisted out of the ace’s grasp. “Pizza’s here!” he declared, hurrying to the front door.
Asahi grinned at the retreating figure, then lowered the volume on their game, content to let it sit on the screen between races, waiting for someone to let it know to move on to track three. He got up and moved into the kitchen just as Noya was returning, pizza box and 2-liter soda in hand.
“Finally, we can eat,” the libero said, setting both items on the table and lifting the lid of the box all in one fluid movement.
“Hold on a second, Noya,” Asahi said, doing his best to sound serious despite his ulterior motives. “We are actively in volleyball season. We have to be careful about what we’re eating.”
Noya stared at him. “Dude, we ordered a pizza forever ago. If you thought it was a bad idea you should have said something then, not now.”
“That’s not what I mean. I mean we’ve got to watch our calories.” Asahi pushed down on the lid of the box, closing it as Noya frowned in confusion.
“Whatever calories we get we’ll burn off in practice. What’s your deal, Asahi?”
Deciding it would be best to jump right into his mischievous intentions rather than risk Noya getting mad at him, he grabbed the little libero and hoisted him over his shoulder, carrying him back into the living room.
“Whoa, whoa! What are you doing?!” Noya cried, grabbing onto Asahi’s shirt for support in the seconds before he was suddenly flying through the air, landing on the ace’s beanbag chair with an “oomph!” When he suddenly found himself straddled with both wrists pinned over his head and wiggling fingers in his field of vision, Nishinoya realized what was about to happen, and he grinned nervously.
“I think,” said Asahi, smirking down at him, “we should burn off those calories before you eat, hmm?”
“What about you?” Noya retorted, letting out a yelp when the ace lunged for his helpless ribcage, stopping just before making contact. He blushed, embarrassed.
“I don’t need to worry about calories. It’s all muscle for me. But you’re just a little guy. You have to be more careful.”
Noya gasped, pretending to be offended. “How dare you! Take that bahahahahahack!” He giggled when those fingers finally started scribbling. “Gah – nohohohohoho! Asahi!”
Asahi beamed, thoroughly enjoying himself. When he’d found out last year that Noya was extremely ticklish, he’d vowed not to use it against his friend too much – but every now and again, he simply couldn’t resist.
“Let’s see…I think about thirty minutes of tickle torture will be enough to burn off the calories you’ll get from eating that pizza, don’t you?”
“Whahahahahahahat?!” Noya cried, giggling helplessly. “Are you crahahahahazy? I cahahan’t last that lohohohohohong!”
“It’s either that or you don’t eat as much pizza.” Asahi shrugged. “If you want, I’ll only tickle you for fifteen minutes and then eat the rest of your share for you.”
“Thahahahahahat’s not fahahahahair!”
“I’m willing to make the sacrifice.”
“You jeheheheheheheherk! The pihihihihizza will be cohohohohohohold by thehehehen!”
Asahi hummed contemplatively. “Then I guess I’ll have to speed things up. How about five minutes nonstop on your worst spots? That should do it.”
“No!” Noya shrieked, but Asahi was already digging harder into his ribs, turning his giggling into laughter. “Gahahahahahahaha nohohohohohohohoho! Asahihihiehehehehehehehe!”
“Orrrr,” the ace drew out the word teasingly, “if you want, instead of eating the rest of your share, I could fill up on ribs instead.”
Noya couldn’t take being messed with like this. What sucked even more was that Asahi had strength and height to his advantage, so no matter how much he struggled, he knew he wasn’t getting away until the ace said so. The libero scoffed. “Y-Yohohohou dohohon’t hahahahahave it in you.”
“Oh?”
Immediately Noya knew it had been the wrong thing to say.
“Nononono, wait, wait, I was joking, please Asahi—”
“Are you sure about that?”
“Wait! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!!” Nishinoya tossed his head back and screeched, kicking his legs uselessly as Asahi nibbled on his exposed ribs. “AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! PLEHEHEHEHEHEASE ASAHIHIEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!” The ticklish sensations were so strong and so maddening, Noya felt like he was losing his grip on sanity being tortured like this. “STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!”
Asahi let up, allowing his friend a chance to breathe. When the libero met his eyes, the ace grinned wickedly. “Don’t wanna.” Then he leaned down to nibble along the other set of ribs, relishing in the screams of laughter he produced, enjoying how Noya squirmed and kicked beneath him to no avail. The second-year outshone him in so many ways, it felt good to be able to outdo him in at least one activity. Plus, Noya’s laughter was loud and screechy and uncontrollable. It was the best sound ever.
“STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!!” Noya begged, unable to stand the strong tickly feeling emanating from his ribcage as Asahi nibbled. “PLEASE, PLEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEASE!! PLEASE, ASAHI!!”
Again the ace let up, allowing Noya the opportunity to gasp for air. “Hmm…we’re burning off some calories, that’s for sure. But I think a little more tickling is in order before I can in good conscience let you have some pizza.”
Noya groaned, but he was grinning ear to ear, secretly enjoying this as much as Asahi was. “You jeheherk, I hahahahate you…”
“Okay, so we’ll burn a few more calories for that comment.” Asahi wiggled his fingers in Noya’s underarm, grinning when the libero instantly burst into hysterics again.
“GOD, YOU SUHUHUHUHUHUHUCK!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!”
“A few more calories, then. You really want your entire half, don’t you?”
“OF COHOHOHOHOHOURSE I DO, YOU PIEHEHEHECE OF—NAHAHAHAHAHA!!” Nishinoya screamed when Asahi leaned down to blow a raspberry on his belly. “OKAY, OKAY, I’M SOHOHOHOHOHORRY!! NO RAHAHAHAHAHASPBERRIES!!”
Asahi chuckled. Raspberries were his trump card when it came to making Noya submit. They worked every single time.
“PLEHEHEASE, I CAHAHAHAN’T TAKE ANY MOHOHOHOHORE!! LET ME GOHOHOHOHOHO!!”
“I think you can.” Asahi smiled, scooting up so he was straddling Noya’s lower stomach, using his free hand to reach behind him and squeeze at one of his thighs.
Noya would have bucked his hips if he weren’t stuck in this position, laughter bubbling out of him once more, this time more frantic and hysterical than the last. “NOHOHOHOHO, NO, ASAHI NOT THEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHERE!!”
“I think a couple more minutes should do the trick.”
“I CAHAHAHAHAHAN’T LAST THAT LOHOHOHOHONG!! PLEASE – PLEASE – NAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!” Noya laughed and laughed and laughed, unable to hold back even a little bit as Asahi squeezed and kneaded into first one thigh, then the other, then back again, over and over for a solid minute and a half at least.
Asahi watched Noya’s face contort with uncontrollable joy, his voice coming out in loud screams for mercy, his body thrashing helplessly beneath his firm hold, and the ace couldn’t help but smile endearingly at the sight. Every once in a while, it was fun to turn his confident friend into a complete and total wreck.
When Noya’s pleas for mercy started coming out in wheezing gasps, Asahi decided he’d had enough for today and let him go, releasing his wrists and climbing off of him. He sat on the floor beside the beanbag, waiting patiently for him to recover.
“I h-hate you…” Noya said at last, his voice breathy and little hoarse. “The pizza’s gonna be cold now…”
“I have a microwave.”
“It’s not the same.” The libero groaned as he sat up, turning to look at his upperclassman with a tired smirk. “Been a while since you decided to really destroy me like that.”
Asahi chuckled, getting to his feet and helping Noya up behind him. “Couldn’t resist.”
Noya grinned, leading the way back into the kitchen. “Come on, ace. I think I more than deserve those calories now.”
